An animated music video for Katy Perry’s “Daisies” is set to be released on Tuesday, according to Vallée Duhamel – the studio who produced it. In a post last week the studio pointed to a May 22nd release but it is now set for May 26th.
Before the pandemic, Katy Perry’s record company, Capitol Records, contacted the studio for the making of the Daisies music video. Originally, the two artists planned to embark on a real studio shoot, but it quickly had to change concept and scenario. Then they wanted to turn to 2D animation. What would take 10 weeks to do in the studio finally took 3 and a half, but involved an impressive exercise in remote coordination. Despite the pandemic, some Quebec companies are succeeding. This is the case with the Vallée Duhamel studio, which produced the next music video by none other than Katy Perry, one of the queens of pop. On May 17, the public could see the first images of this video during the finale of the American program American Idol, in which Katy Perry is also a judge. It was in fact an adaptation of the video for Daisies , the singer’s next single. The final product will be unveiled on Tuesday, but this taste gives us a good idea of the universe that inhabits the two artists behind Vallée Duhamel. In fact, more than 30 animators participated in the production of the clip. The animation studio was in Buenos Aires, Argentina, while production was based in Los Angeles, with another producer working from Amsterdam. All communications took place on Zoom or Skype taking into account the different time zones. We covered the whole globe. Some went to bed late; others who woke up early , explains Ève Duhamel, a small smile on her lips. Give free rein to your imagination In addition to saving considerable time, choosing the animation opened the door to the wildest dreams of the two brains behind the clip. There are scenes where the whole room is transformed. […] The last room, we decided to fill it with water, which usually would have led to exorbitant costs […] We really let ourselves go to the level of creativity. This freedom results in a surreal universe, all in vibrant colors; a trademark of Vallée Duhamel.
