NOLA.com posted a review of Katy Perry’s set at Jazz Fest in New Orleans on April 27th, 2019.

The immeasurably charming Katy Perry patted her belly and assured the audience at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on Saturday (April 27) that she was not pregnant, just full from visiting the festival food booths a day earlier. “We love, love, love the food,” she said. The music, she explained, is only necessary to burn off the calories.
But as anyone who attended her concert will agree, the set Perry served up was as delicious as a crawfish sack/oyster patty combo.

At the start of the show, the multi-platform superstar appeared from behind a huge pink feather prop positioned at the back of the stage. The California Gurl wore a vinyl costume that fitted her as tightly as the skin of an avocado. Before the show, there were those who felt the “American Idol” judge belonged at the Louisiana roots music festival like guacamole in gumbo. Perry acknowledged the misgivings of purists.

“I’m just a little pop star,” she said, “so what am I doing here?”

But her commanding vocals and confident strutting squashed any misgivings. Backed by a fierce four-piece band, Perry proved she belonged at the fest as she powered through “Teenage Dream,” “Hot N Cold,” “Peacock,” “I Kissed a Girl,” “Dark Horse” and other hits. She picturesquely played acoustic guitar as she performed “The One That Got Away” at the edge of the Acura runway. The Soul Rebels Brass Band joined her in a thunderous version of “Dark Horse” and the “Gospel Soul Children” helped bring the show home with a gorgeous mash-up of “Firework” and “Oh Happy Day.”

Simply put, Perry couldn’t have been much better.

Pragmatism aside, as far as I’m concerned, Katy can close out Acura any day.
