Ahead of the 2019 Met Gala that takes place on May 6th with the theme “Camp,” Vogue has stated that Katy Perry is “the ultimate Met Gala theme queen” and takes takes a look at all the LEWKS she’s served in her seven years attending.
f anybody loves dressing to theme, it’s Katy Perry. A seven-time Met Gala attendee, the singer has consistently embraced the dress code with fashion-forward gusto. Take last year, when she graced the red carpet of the “Heavenly Bodies” ball in a pair of larger-than-life angel wings.
While this otherworldly Versace creation was by far her most fireworks-worthy moment to date, Perry has made other notable appearances. In 2017, for the Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons exhibit, she leaned into the avant-garde aesthetic of the night with a custom gown by Maison Margiela and full embroidered veil designed by John Galliano. A year earlier, for “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” she accessorized her custom Prada dress with a cheeky tech accessory: a ’90s-style Tamagotchi. Even when she’s not dressing precisely to theme, the look is still campy galore: Remember the spray-painted Moschino dress she for “China: Through the Looking Glass,” in 2015?
With a bevy of kooky fashion moments under her belt—both on the Met steps and on stage—Perry is bound to pull out all the stops for this year’s camp theme. She clearly has the fashion history to prove it.
